When last we saw Emil Svanängen he was busking in London while a bunch of kids laughed at him. In the Marcus Söderlund-directed video for Dear John opener “Airport Surroundings,” he’s out for revenge, first on his bike and then in his car, never once stopping for gas, and covering more ground than you’d expect from a three-minute Swedish pop song. OK, it’s likely not revenge he’s after, but coupled with the obsessive lyrics it makes for a somewhat dark, creepy stalker vibe — albeit in a not-very-scary Death Cab For Cutie way.
Dear John is out 1/27 via Polyvinyl. Shortly thereafter, you can catch the guys live, often with Andrew Bird.

This song kicks Animal Collective’s collective ass.
…and if this comment puts me into the year end top ten worst comments list, then I shall be well pleased.
