Toronto’s Great Lake Swimmers are releasing their fourth album Lost Channels at the end of March (Nettwerk, 3/31). On it, the pristine intonations and detailed lyrical threads of Tony Dekker are surrounded by flute, guitar, drums, bass, pedal steel, other voices. See, for example, the suitably water-themed, eventual first single “Pulling On A Line,” which debuted in this week’s Drop. We asked Dekker about its various lines about lines. Read his responses (which involve Benjamin Franklin) while you take a listen. Also, you can catch the Swimmers on tour starting tomorrow (1/29).

This week we also offered a chance to win a pair of very environmentally friendly Simple Sno Tire-Hemp and Satire-Hemp shoes.

Proposed water safety standards criticized
The Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health Act of 2000 gave EPA five years to issue recreational beach criteria to protect swimmers’ health at coastal and Great Lakes beaches. When the agency missed its deadline, the NRDC sued.

    I stumbled across Great Lake Swimmers a couple years ago and felll in love with the music. It’s impossible to put into words what this band can make you feel. You don’t just listen to this, it envelopes you and caresses you and fills your world with peace and….. well you get the picture! Looking forward to the new record!
