When I posted “To Tears” I went into how I like Abe Vigoda’s shift from “tropical punk rock” to this unexpected Arthur Russell and cold/minimal wave-influenced batch of frozen synths, sequencers, melancholic vocals, and icy guitar lines. Now you can stream the whole thing, see what I’m talking about, and agree. Or decide I need to embrace sunnier things.

Yeah, the first time I heard it I was thrown off by the lack of their signature sound but the more listens I give it the more it sinks in and I begin to understand that it should not be judged against what they have done but judged as a fine collection of pop songs. Really great release from these guys. There are too many great albums this year already and we still have more to come. Also the new Deerhunter is tremendous!
