When not a Fleet Fox, Robin Pecknold is a solo White Antelope. As a reminder, we posted his take on “False Knight On The Road,” which first showed up on his MySpace (along with a brief “Guitar Duet”) and now as the b-side to “Mykonos.” Yesterday Pecknold posted a third White Antelope track, this time a cover of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe.” Another cover because, as he told Chocolate Bobka, he’ll soon record a cover of Judee Sill’s “Ridge Rider” for a compilation since “trying to write new stuff is hard right now for some reason.” No worries: If 2008 was all about reunions, 2009 (so far) seems to be all about covers, so the man is definitely nailing the zeitgeist.

You can download this and the other two posted White Antelope tracks at Peenko. (Thanks for the heads up, McGregor.)

UPDATE: Fleet Foxes proper just did the Dylan tune on BBC 6Music’s Hub Session. Here is is (thanks Peenko for the tip.)

  1. Man, what the hell was Zach Snyder thinking?? He should have gotten these guys to cover Desolation Row for Watchmen instead of MCR. Flipping MCR.

Wonderful cover, just like everything else these guys have done!! : )

That’s Robin on all three parts, right? Amazing pipes there. I’d love to hear a verse without the harmonies… just to break it up… or something a tad different. And, btw… I didn’t see it up on his White Antelope page.. must have taken it down already? Unless I am spacing. Which is a likely possibility.

    Whaaat!?!

I posted this for 10 minutes!!! At four in the morning!! Then noticed some bad notes on the chorus so I took it off. What the heck!

    You guys are good.

Grizzly Bear covered It Ain’t Me Babe?

    • Yeah, I second this inquiry on GB’s cover. I’d like to hear that.

Also, I’d think you would know by now that you can’t post anything on the internet for any length of time without it being snatched up.

  4. Do More Dylan Covers. Please.

…there’s that thing on the Tusk reissue called “Kiss and Run”…there’s that awesome 4 Way Street version of “On the Way Home”…I’ve found “Dark Eyes” to be one of the …

  10. The Dylan cover was gorgeous. Am I weird in craving some Pecknold covering some Lee Hazlewood? Yeah, probably. Come on Robin, swing lo’ on some “Some Velvet Morning”, that ditty that has perfect blend of enchanting ’60′s pop with a bit of bizarre spaghetti western thrown in for flair. See that? I think that’s a thrown gauntlet laying there.
