The self-proclaimed “old fart” had agreed to perform his award-nominated Wall-E song “Down To Earth” until he was told he’d have to cut it to one-minute and fit into an Oscar-song medley. Songwriters “work bloody hard and deserve (a bigger part in the ceremony),” he stated. We respect his protest, but Videogum‘s liveblog will proceed as scheduled. 1. Good for him! First they snub Springsteen, now they’re screwing the ones who WERE nominated. Really, Oscar, in a four hour telecast you can only afford to give three minutes to the music? Absolutely absurd, and the final straw in me skipping the telecast.

  2. How can you make a medley out of two Slumdog Millionaire songs and “Down to Earth”? That’s not even a medley. What was wrong with having a musical performance in between every three or four statue handouts?
