The blonde-wigged Brit singer-songwriter Emma Louise (a.k.a. Scout) Niblett has once again wooed Steve Albini away from spending all his time with his excellent Italian greyhound long enough to record her forthcoming, fourth full-length — but while we wait for her next guitar-drum-sung LP, Scout offers a three-song EP to help bide the time. And, quite excellently, she has chosen to cover “Just What I Needed.” You won’t hear her trademark stick wielding; just a couple of harmonies and a lonely electric that picks up some fuzz at the two-minute mark and then gets all riot grrl for like thirty seconds.
Scout Niblett – “Just What I Needed”
As a little download bonus, here’s Ms. Niblett doing EP title track “Dinosaur Egg” in concert, faithful to its studio incarnation, summoning a sparse and stricken Polly Jean Harvey with a sheen of that good ole fashioned live-recording hiss.
Watch it happen sans wig here. Just Do It/Dinosaur Egg is available via Too Pure.

UPDATE: Join us after the jump for a wigless live clip of “Dinosaur Egg.”

um, dudes. it’s after 6/5. way to copy and paste!
Pretty certain that Scout Niblett is actually retarded. If she’s not and is just playing retarded, then it’s not funny.
Does anyone else think she looks vaguely like Gerard Way with a bad wig?
I’ve been listening to Excellent Italian Greyhound for 4 days straight now. Very excellent indeed.
Look what you have wrought, Joanna Newsom. If Ric Ocasek was dead, he’d be rolling in his very long, but very narrow grave.
I wouldn’t blame Newsom – this woman’s been around for a few years longer.
This sounds awful, but not as awful as the version by Poison. I’m even more confident now that no one, including The New Cars, should ever mess with The Cars.

Girls singing in falsetto confuse me so much.
I’ve been victimized by Scout Niblett performances for way too many years…. I really thought she was a comic for the first couple of years. Until a year or two ago, it seemed like every time I wasn’t sure what South by Southwest show I was headed into, it turned out to be her performance – always lots of room, but we always ran for the exits after confirming that, yes, it really was as bad as we remembered.
