Biggest news in recent months from camp Drive-By came from the departure of Jason Isbell, with John Neff being promoted to full-time status in the band’s Southern-fried three axe attack. And since then, those crazy mother Truckers have been on The Dirt Underneath tour, an acoustic tour with Spooner Oldham along for the ride, showing off lots of new Cooley and Hood tunes. Nine Bullets has posted nine of those songs after trolling archive.org for live rips, and he seems psyched on D-BT’s direction, saying it’s “a much stronger crop of songs than they had on A Blessing and A Curse….thank god.”
In other Drive-By news, the Truckers and Spooner will be the backing band on Bettye LaVette’s new record The Scene Of The Crime, out 9/25 on ANTI-. We’ll get you a listen soon, and it’s nice to have all this activity on the Trucker front, but really it’s just reminding us that Bonnaroo ain’t gonna be the same without ‘em.

Anyone else notice that both the Truckers AND Jason Isbell have seperate shows scheduled for NYC on July 19th?
I’ve heard the rumors of their split being less than amicable, but think we’ll get a sit-in/mini-reunion at one of the shows?
Jason’s hinted at some ‘special guests’. I believe it was on his MySpace.
With this outing, I’m hoping we’ll see Bettye LaVette get some national TV exposure. I’m tired of seeing lightweights getting all the choice gigs like Leno, Letterman, Oprah, etc.
People like Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse and every unknown garage band are getting these choice gigs…why? Because their white? When will America get over this blatant racism and give us some REAL entertainment?
These shows would rather have Paris Hilton (that wonderful singer and legendary movie star)as a guest rather than Etta James or the dynamic Ms. LaVette!
the truckers rule….but, isbell’s new stuff is quite tasty……i’m sure it would be hard to play in a band with your ex-wife, right?
a blessing and a curse(like all of the truckers stuff) is a great album…hands down

And Isbell’s new album is good from what I’ve heard. Truckers new ones are good too, especially Cooley’s (per usual). Not sure about the split, but Jason’s been playing Patterson’s “Assassins” live calling Patterson “my good friend.”
John Neff is a fucking genius on pedal steel. I’m really looking forward to hearing how the DBT sound on this upcoming tour and studio work.
