The sisters Quin plan on perpetrating The Con this summer, and it’s the 26-year-olds fifth full-length record. We’ve had a few spins of the LP, and though the title track and “Nineteen” are probably our songs-of-choice, lead single “Back In Your Head” is a breezy slice of indie-pop and one of the record’s finest (and a good look for producer/DCFC’s Chris Walla). Sara’s the twin who takes the songwriting credit, and she tells us, “This song was quite slow and sparse when I first wrote it. Chris had me speed it up dramatically. We tried to get Mick Fleetwood to play drums on it but he was in Maui.” That would have been cool. Mick never returns our calls, either.

Tegan And Sara – “Back In Your Head”

Sounds like they’ve been listening to Pinback and Chin Up Chin Up.

this new album frustrates me. there are some GREAT songs, and some horrible songs. theres almost no middle ground. i will give chris walla big props tho. he does a good production job…even when the songs arent all that great.

  3. The Con is one of the worst lesbian rock albums I’ve ever heard.

Like O, Like H makes me want to beat up women with a sack of doorknobs.

  4. “lesbian rock album” Ok Allen, although they happen to be lesbians that does not mean everything they create and touch is oozing with lesbianism. That being said, I’m now going to put on my lesbian clothes, get my lesbian keys, walk out of my lesbian house, lock my lesbian front door, and drive out in my lesbian car.

  5. ryan  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2007

    they’re lesbos? damn

  6. Vyral  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2007

I don’t think they are lesbians.

  7. clay  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2007

lesbian rock album? do you refer to radiohead’s albums as heterosexual rock records?

beating up women with a sack of door knobs?

why are you even allowed to post violent offensive garbage like that here?

who cares if they are lesbians! the song has nothing to do with her gender preference. are you insane?

i’m shocked at the stupidity of you comment.

  8. the little keyboard riff in this song sounds like the keyboard from the horatio sanz/jimmy fallon snl xmas sketch

I don’t care what your mama says Allen here fears the gays.

bubblegum-chewing, vapid, and easily forgettable. but hey, its TEGAN & SARA! any band that is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and plays stuff that resembles a song will be eaten up by the bloggers. i came here out of curiosity and remembered why i don’t frequently visit. grow some testes and put some effort into finding good bands to blog about. remember, if its “indie” and the members all have shaggy, mod hair and look so cute and tasty…IT MUST BE GOOD!

    Buddyhead.com Worst of 2004:

    Tegan & Sara
    So Jealous
Are these chicks twins too? Do we have to deal with another sibling duo band here? FUCK. Next thing you know, the Olsen slores are gonna have a band too. As for Tegan & Sara, one of them plays power chords (ala Green Day) while the other one sings like Alvin & The Chipmunks over it. Yeah, you guessed right, they’re Canadian.

  13. Drew  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2007

Why do you haters even bother to post? Criticize the music if you want, but when you get hung up on looks and sexual preference, you’re broadcasting your ignorance. Doorknobs? Grow up.

  14. meelo  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2007

    Wow, talk about bitchy twats.
The Con is a great record. I feel sorry for the people that won’t allow themselves to enjoy it. Get over your hang ups, it’s only music.

  15. Timestwo  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2007

    Best album ever!
The Quin twins make excellent music.
Get to know them and you’ll really like them.

  16. If “So Jealous” was the cd to bring them to the brink of hitting it big, then surely “The Con” will be the one to send them over the top. This is a fantastic cd. One we’ll be seeing in numerous Top Albums of 2007.

  17. maria  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2007

Tegan and Sara are amazing. I can’t say much about this album ’cause I have only heard the two songs they have on myspace, but what I’ve heard is really good.

  18. Jules  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2007

The Con is a great album, very powerful.
I was hoping The Con or maybe Nineteen would be the single but ah well..
Can’t wait to see them live this Summer!

  19. Lori  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2007

This new album is AMAZING, and Back in Your Head is my favorite song on it :D
The Quin Sisters kick everyone’s ass.

  20. Natalie  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2007

They are very talented girls. If you have any rude remarks then you don’t know good music when you hear it. And obviously you have no life if you argue back and forth over the internet with people you don’t even know.

  21. fatso  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2007

posting on stereogum is always hit and miss. for every one comment thread actually generating interesting discussion/debate, there’s at least 10 other posts with people either claiming to be too hip for the subject/music (see: any post on the national or radiohead) or they’re making a series of not-so-clever jabs about the artist’s personal life (see: ryan adams). it’s not even worth it to argue with them.

any how, not loving the song. felt a little… uninspired to me. i dig t&s’s whole breezy feel, and i thought ‘so jealous’ did a great job balancing the triteness (for lack of a better word) of their music with some decent lyrics and melodies. it did take a while to grow on me though, so maybe the new record just needs a few more listens for me to get into it.

  22. otis  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2007

This album is VERY disappointing. I thought so jealous was 3/4 of a great album…The Con is 1/4 of a good one.

  23. BattleWar  |   Posted on Jun 18th, 2007

The Con is an amazing album. Though not my top pick Back in Your Head is a decent song. I can’t wait until I’m actually holding the album in my hand.

For those of you who that made really inappropriate and offensive comments- I’m biting my tongue to not write ‘fuc* you’ 10 times- You need to grow up and learn some respect. I’m not talking about admiration or shit like that I mean respect that each person in this world deserves.

  24. editor  |   Posted on Jun 18th, 2007

this album is great. one of the best that have come across my desk in a long time.

  25. Jenny  |   Posted on Jun 18th, 2007

Tegan and Sara are fantastic! I love all their records and I can’t wait til The Con comes out, but from what I’ve heard so far the album is fabulous. I encourage people to at least take some time out of their somewhat busy schedules and have a listen to Tegan and Sara’s records…I recommend all of their records, because once you start listening to them you can’t stop [at least in my case I can't].

  26. Jello on a spoon  |   Posted on Jun 18th, 2007

Just another Tegan and Sara Sound with matured voices. There is more actual singing on this album. I love it. Fuckin Awesome!

  27. First, great album! Really, it took a bit longer to love this album than their previous ones, but definitely worth listening. I’d also like to ask where some of these super hateful comments coming from? I mean, if you don’t like it, you don’t like it but let it go. why does their sexual orientation have be such a fucking issue?

  28. why do some people always enjoy dissing other artists? If you don’t like the music just say you don’t like it. there’s no need to be criticizing, especially if you don’t have any reasonable arguments to support your opinion.

anyway…Tegan and Sara are absolutely amazing!!
    So is the new record!

  29. bear  |   Posted on Jun 19th, 2007

i held off on commenting because the really negative , offensive comments made me second guess whether or not a comment would be well received at all…nevertheless, i am so happy with the album and this song in particular, i love tegan and sara and can’t wait to see them once they start touring in the summer.

  30. Not feeling it.

  31. laura  |   Posted on Jun 20th, 2007

listening to this song always makes me smile.

  32. Flash  |   Posted on Jun 21st, 2007

This album needed a few listens for me, but once I hit listen #4 I was hooked. I thought for sure The Con would be the first single, I feel like this song will get lost on the radio. Hope it doesn’t though, the girls deserve to break through on this one.

  33. Sorcha  |   Posted on Jun 22nd, 2007

ok, so the album is totally different to their last efforts and i for one LOVE IT! although i may be biased as i am a huge tegan and sara fan in general, i really hope this has the same success rate as “So Jelous”,if not better! I cant wait for its release, oh and has anyone else hear “We’re So Beyond This” by The Reason?? with Sara guest vocalling?? (is vocalling a word??) its off the hook!! ahh so exciting! and the lesbian comments??? please go F**k yourself..thank you

  34. azin  |   Posted on Jun 22nd, 2007

i don’t know, but i’ve been listening to this album for the past few weeks straight…

  35. Jeff  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2007

The Con Rocks. Best album of 2007 so far.

  36. I agree with Jeff and azin, etc. — best album of 2007 so far. I’ve also been listening to nothing but this album for a few weeks straight. If people just give the album a few more spins, and check out some of their videos, they’ll grow on you big time.

  37. mike  |   Posted on Jul 25th, 2007

this song is really the only thing the con has going for it.
    so jealous was much better.

  38. Rckoutloud  |   Posted on Oct 16th, 2007

    So addicting..
    cant stop..
    LISTENING!!
    ha. :]

  39. Octoles  |   Posted on Oct 24th, 2007

The Con is an amazing album. These girls have come a long way, and are gaining tremendous musical leverage, in my opinion, after a decade of writing songs seperately.

  40. tatiana  |   Posted on Nov 3rd, 2007

“the quin twins?!” Oh how cute-Not! They are so fuckin ugly they are competing with the olsen twin-well ashley for the ugly twin title. These two have no personality and are self-absorbed. How dare they be so boring and obnoxious when they are ugly butches get the fuck out of hollywood and off my mtv I don’t gie a shit about your opinions- you are ugly geeks and the haircuts would only work on someone hip youb are misfit geeks and need normal haircuts you are not stylin in any otyher way so get down to earth and real and stop being hypocritical. You are supposed to be folksy and real so stop tryin to pretend you fit with a cool crowd geeks.

  41. face the music  |   Posted on Nov 14th, 2007

they make good music . shut up you ignorant degrading insignificant pig headed haters .

  42. Char  |   Posted on Dec 17th, 2007

tatiana I bet you’re probably attractive as dirty monkey’s asshole and thus are just jealous of them. So f-off you piece of shit. They’ve worked really hard to get where they are. And the Con proves it. So seriously all people who hate Tegan and Sara should just hang themselves and stop sucking the joy of the world… serious assholes.

  43. This is really a GREAT album. I saw their homemade documentary on Comcast about the making of The Con with Chris Walla and it made me go back and listen to all the tracks again.

Watching them interact, write and perform the album made me madly in love with every song all over again.

    But I have a question…

What does like O like H really mean anway? HELP! I mean, I get the whole – I’m in danger thing – is it Anorexia, suicidal thoughts caused by the difficulties of realizing you’re gay and the inability to deal…? what is it?!

I LOVE my Tegan and Sara and their lesbian EVERYTHING!

Some of you homophobes need to get a life. None of ‘us’ gives a shit about YOUR human freakshow. Get over yourselves.

  44. chanelluvr  |   Posted on Feb 10th, 2008

everyone who’s posted something negative about t&s because of their hair or their sexual preference is a douchebag. plain and simple. they’re amazing poets and musicians and play music because they love the art and their fans. they don’t care about how much radio play they get, let alone if they’re on tv or have won over the entire universe. they have a strong fanbase, make great music for great reasons, and that’s what matters. they continually put out fantastic records, and they put on great live shows. half of you people don’t even know what you’re talking about. you don’t have to be a fan, but don’t say such horrible things. they’re people too, and they have real emotions. i bet you anything at least one of them has read some of these posts. they may have grown to ignore them by now, but some just get degrading. it’s not “a lesbian album.” do you ever hear either of them mention HER or SHE or GIRL in their songs? no. because they don’t use their sexuality as a gimmick. their sexuality is just a part of them, and a lot of younger lesbians look up to them because they are good, amazingly sweet people. so don’t put them down for no reason at all.

anyways. to CHAR, like o like h is about sara [and tegan] doing things that her mother, even though they had a really close relationship, didn’t know about. they’ve mentioned drugs and such, [they don't do them anymore] but the act of coming out and dating girls for the first time is probably incorporated in there, as well. either way, it’s really just what was going on in skq’s life behind the closed doors of her room/life.

  45. chanelluvr  |   Posted on Feb 10th, 2008

    oops my bad.
that answer was directed to Edd. =]

and char, since i mentioned you, HURRAY someone who LIKES t&S is posting in an article about them.

  46. Kalen  |   Posted on Apr 21st, 2008

Okay, for those people who are hatin on Tegan and Sara, GET OVER IT!! They are who they are, and if you don’t like them because of that, then don’t listen to their music!! DUHH!! It doesn’t take a sack of rocks to figure that one out.. Their music is the best, and they are also very beautiful. So if you have a problem with them because of their sexuality, then u have a problem with 55% of the population!!

  47. hop-a-plane  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2008

Tegan and Sara are amazing!!! Im completely in love with them at the min, seen them live twice this year, they jus get better and better!! The Con is f**kin genius, their best achievment to date, every song is so good and different!! They’re talented, dedicated, hardworking, genuine and very very funny and down to earth. Their music is heartfelt and simply brilliant! If you don’t like their music, y waste your time writing about it or be so pathetic as to criticise their personality or looks?? They are far from ugly!! Stop bein so shallow and narrow minded and get over yourselves!! Tegan and Sara are what real music and talent is all about!

Oh, and the fact that they’re gay is completely IRRELEVENT!!
