You know how when you’re at the karaoke bar and your one friend that really thinks she can sing grabs the mic and does some Whitney and thinks its gonna sound really good but it really doesn’t? Well, then you’re one friend isn’t Shara Worden. Reader David sent this clip of MBD down in Brazil doing the Houston version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” being corny and still showing off that North Texas opera education (dig the transition into the modulation!). And this is the second Stereogum-beloved siren we’ve come across on YouTube engaged in international karaoke in recent months (last time it was Björk in Paris doing 2Unlimited). So much in common! Except here Shara is amazing, and there Björk was wasted.

I’d like to see Shara on American Idol. That shit would be HILLLLLLLARIOUS.
That was cute. Her guy was so ready to leave that stage.
This is soooo Gilmore Girls!
I think Bjork and Shara should have a drunken karaoke showdown.
whoa. that was actually kind of impressive. maybe I should check her out.
well.. Cibo Matto’s Miho Hatori was there too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUSb0KSQfMM and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8hAWJAuzt0
Lionel Richie’s song is great but.. they were not very tuned singers, some would say.
here’s the missing link of Miho Hatori at the Karaoke I’ve mentioned in the coment above: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCHCS3b0MGw .
those ones are the Shara’s band mates at the same karaoke. sorry!
holy crap she ripped it! i never thought i’d hear a version of the song i didn’t hate
That really made my day, thank you.
Bjork does not compare to Shara’s vocal abilities. Two different singers! American Idol is not her type of venue. She does not need it to express her incredible talent. She’s amazing!
