R.E.M. - Collapse Into Now

We learned some album details in early November, and hear some fragments of Collapse Into Now earlier this week. “Discoverer” is the first actual taste of the album and the opening track. It’s also the one word you’ll hear Stipe shout in the muscular chorus. Listen:

  1. I love the song Discoverer, and am looking forward to listening to the new album.

  2. Boy oh boy. : )( :

  3. I like. It sounds a little like a combo of Finest Worksong and Turn You Inside-Out to my ears. Good stuff.

  4. Disappointer. Blech!

  5. Remember when R.E.M. was writing listenable music?

  6. This is a bold opener. Very positive and loud. Perfect!

  7. Writer’s Block

  8. This continues REM’s streak of album art that is a lot better than what you’d expect from a decades-old band on a major label (I’m looking at you, The Cure)

  9. Sounds like the Constantines. But wussier.

  10. Parts of it are kind of cool, other parts are kind of like an oasis chorus without oasis and a good melody.
