Devendra Banhart and his real-life girlfriend Rebecca Schwartz star in Lisa Eisner’s short film for Oliver Peoples. Eisner was inspired by French New Wave films, and that plus the beautiful L.A. light (she’s primarily a photographer) gives everything (the walls, their skin) a gossamer, intimate quality. What do Banhart and Schwartz do in the video? Share a bathtub, make out, wear sunglasses, lick toes. Typical Devendra. He and his pretty girlfriend are frolicking around the Rainbow, or Garcia House, an architectural masterpiece by John Lautner. You might also recognize it as the house from Lethal Weapon 2. The song is “Brindo,” from Banhart’s What Will We Be. Watch:

  1. Devendra Banhart; still gross.

  2. i think vincent gallo used to own the rainbow house.

  3. Devendra Banhart is the biggest attention whore I have ever seen. I wish I could take a picture of that shitty moustache back in time to Pitchfork and all those bloggers who were hailing this guy as some kind of super authentic folk guru back in the early ’00s. Remember those interviews about how they had to record him alone in a living room because all the modern studio equipment freaked him out? Man, that guy sure knows how to work an image.

  4. Bingo, Batcaver. I remember seeing him on Jools Holland in the early 00s, and he popped up while one of the other bands was playing, and flapped around in this affected dance-trance, and I remember just thinking he was full of shit back then.

Everything about him is an affectation from the way he sings, to the way he ‘made it’ – A word to aspiring American musicians: Come to Europe – your nationality alone guarantees you an iota of celebrity from the get-go.

  5. Personality aside, the guy’s music is enchanting.

  6. This blows. What a douche.

  7. Devendra is a genius and his music is fantastic.

  8. Me and Devendra have only one thing in common: we both think he is very pretty.

  9. i liked the video

  10. Fucking most bad video ever. A fucking crap. Devandra’s deviant. A delusion from years. Now is just business.
