The new Shins video comes courtesy of mtvU’s Breaking The Video, a project though which MTV and Sub Pop joined forces to fund aspiring filmmaker/NYU film student Antonio Campos and give him the honor of directing Wincing The Night Away‘s fourth video. In it we see a young girl painting on a canvas, while flashing ‘n’ fluctuating shapes and colors become a dancing, lite-brite skyline. Before long her whole apartment comprises the stuff, and although we have no idea what it all means, we’re suckers for pretty colors. Antonio’s gets an A. mtvU premiered the clip today.
Wincing The Night Away is out via Sub Pop.

Greetings independent music critics!
As a fan would say on my favorite local sports radio show ? WFAN 660- I am a first time blogger (caller), long time listener (of music)!
I feel a lot of us, as avid music connoisseurs, have our favorite artists which we keep in frequent rotation. But from time to time we become eager and curious to see what else is out there. This urge can be for a sound, a feel, similar artist or in my case- any random genre- i.e. I consider myself a huge fan of Okkervil River and am super excited about their new album? although right now I have a constant hankering for R&B! I am in love with any good R&B/funk/soul and once I came across the box set- What It Is!: The R&B/Funk rarities of the 1960-1970?s, I knew it was a keeper. And this led me to my newest acquisition- The Last Soul Company: MALACO. This is some great southern funk and blues, enough to quench my thirst for a while!
Although, as we all know? the search for new music is never-ending? And personally, when I satisfy one side of my musical brain- I explore the other for something completely different!
This time, I had no idea what I was looking for, which sort of lead me to something which I had no idea what it was! Mojo Magnet. What I really looking for this??? ?But the more I listened to it, the more it found me. A description of Mojo Magnet would definitely been seen as somewhat quirky, but then again, somewhat he?s not. His songwriting skills are definitely prolific. My best comparison would be along the lines of Beck. How an artist can evolve from Mellow Gold- to Midnight Vultures- to Sea Change, Mojo accomplishes this. The thing is? Mojo does this all in one album! It?s like putting your player on shuffle and being surprised at what comes up? except with Mojo?s album Specnabulous (?don?t ask me what it means) it has the same effect playing it straight through!
Anyways, you can go see for yourself- that is what it?s all about, right?!
Here are some links to what I was talking about?
Malaco?s own internet radio- this is PERFECT music to groove to while working!
