10. Shout Out Louds - "Man On The Moon"

Shout Out Louds On “Man On The Moon”
“The whole band are big fans of Andy Kaufman and that is the reason why we choose that song. We used a lot of bongos because Andy was a hell of a bongo player. I think he would really like this version. Michael (Stipe) is doing a fine job, too. I remember that he looked really cool in that cowboy hat in the video.”
- Adam Olenius

Shout Out Louds

Mike Mills On “Man On The Moon”
“What can you say, you know? One of our finer, finer efforts. That came together literally on the last day of recording. We had the music all finished and we were all pushing Michael to get it done and he came in with all those great words and melodies on that last day of recording.”

“Man On The Moon” lyrics
Mott the Hoople and the game of
Life.
Andy Kaufman in the wrestling
match.
Monopoly, Twenty one,
checkers, and chess.
Mister Fred Blassie in a breakfast
mess.
Let’s play Twister, let’s play Risk.
i’ll see you heaven if you make the list.

Hey, Andy did you hear about
this one? Tell me, are you locked
in the punch?
Andy are you goofing on
Elvis? Hey, baby. Are we losing
touch?
If you believed they put a man on
the moon, man on the moon.
If you believe there’s nothing up
my sleeve, then nothing is cool.

Moses went walking with the
staff of wood.
Newton got beaned by the apple
good.
Egypt was troubled by the
horrible asp.
Mister Charles Darwin had the
gall to ask.

Hey Andy did you hear about this
one? Tell me, are you locked in
the punch?
Andy are you goofing on Elvis?
Hey, baby. Are you having fun?
If you believed they put a man on
the moon, man on the moon.
If you believe there’s nothing up
my sleeve, then nothing is cool.COOL

Here’s a little agit for the never-
believer.
Here’s a little ghost for the
offering.
Here’s a truck stop instead of
Saint Peter’s.
Mister Andy Kaufman’s gone
wrestling

Hey Andy did you hear about this
one? Tell me, are you locked in
the punch?
Hey Andy are you goofing on
Elvis, hey baby, are we losing touch?
If you believed they put a man on
the moon, man on the moon.
If you believe there’s nothing up
my sleeve, then nothing is cool.

ROCK! this is such a gem of a song. thank you, thank you!!

  2. Love the dance leaning on this one. Kind of wish it had gone further… there’s such an ecstatic undercurrent to this song. It’s a pretty damn good version nonetheless, one of my favorites from this whole lineup — nice work!

  3. after a first listen through: this is my favorite so far. Brilliant!

  4. although it starts and builds kinda slowly, this is definitely my fave gem on this comp right now! boogie in my seat

Crap. Boring, uninspired, flat. And that awful thump-thump generic house beat during the chorus? Ugh. Sounds like my cousin Eddie coulda made this track in Garage Band.
