I saw two of my friends’ bands play this week and they didn’t suck at all. My Teenage Stride were at Pianos Tuesday night and Jed played that song about the Happy Mondays that I like. And last night Cara and I were really impressed by The Morning After’s gig at Trash Bar. We didn’t remember J. Go and Hallified rocking so hard in high school (which is in deep shit these days ). At the end of the set Hal ripped off his Woody Allen t-shirt to the delight of Viv and Giulia (who came all the way from Alabama!).

Here’s some random music news thingies:

  • New Interpol album is leaked everywhere. The kids are gonna love track 2.
  • Apparently Michelle Branch has secretly married her bass player. Yeah I know you don’t care.
  • Sony unveils lame iPod copycat. Eh.
  • Free Ben Folds concert: Wednesday 7/14 @ 12:30 pm. Drop by Borders at 10 Columbus Circle to hear great music and celebrate I Love The ’90s.
  • Jack Black is turning Channel 101 into a reality show for FX.
  • Watch the new Morrissey video for “First Of The Gang To Die” (and eight oldies) here. Some say best concert vid since Genesis’ “Throwing It All Away.”
  • Entertainment Weekly visits “Alternative Nation 2.0″ and wonders:

What do you call a movement that encompasses everything from the Shins’ ’60s-influenced pop to Franz Ferdinand’s ’80s-style dance rock? Well, if “Seth Cohen rock” doesn’t take (and we’re pretty certain it won’t), Shins frontman James Mercer has another suggestion. ”It’s fun-grunge,” he says. ”I think we should call it funge.”

  • And speaking of The O.C., how did I miss this: Mischa Barton is dating Rick James?!

Also IM Lauren and tell her you love her lipstick…

laur good: you havent updated your site.
laur good: come on, get to it.
stereogum: i was just about to. tell me a story and i’ll put it up
laur good: i don’t have any good stories except that i’m wearing very red lipstick today..
laur good: and i’m excited about it.
laur good: it’s russian red and it’s how mac makeup got famous
laur good: because madonna wore it in the 80s and everyone was like “where did you get your fab lipstick”
laur good: and it was mac.
stereogum: hmmm … is there any way you can tie it to Robert Smith somehow?
stereogum: ’cause otherwise i don’t think my readers will care about your lipstick
    laur good: maybe.
laur good: i figured. i care.
    stereogum: ok, well congrats.

OK, I lied about the “no Britney.” Tear Us Apart shares high school memories of Kevin Federline. Word is the wedding will be 11/4.

Oh geez, Entertainment Weekly is latching onto hipster music and pronouncing it a “movement?”

Busted-ass Mischa B (I do not get why everyone thinks she is hot… her face looks like she was smacked with a burned frying pan) was a mess at Coachella…

She drunk as a skunk while making out with her boyfriend everwhere that was humanly possible (on the grass, in line for drinks in the VIP section, behind the stage, etc)…

Then Michael Caine made an appearance and she and the boyfriend got into the BIGGEST and LOUDEST argument possible at the Spin after-party… and then climbed onto a statue and started completely freaking out. I shit you not.

    8. You think Britney ever met Michael Caine?

if you think franz, the shins, etc. weren’t mainstream already, then you are paying enough attention.

unfortunately, i don’t have the url for “everywhere” so if someone could throw up a link for the new interpol, i’m sure i’ll love track numero dos.

For a half second, I thought the first track (“Next Exit”) was “Walk of Life” by Dire Straits.

Britney and Michael Caine… I’d bet my ass on it. But I think (as someone mentioned recently), I think she’s def on the reefer tip and a pill-popper.

The Cheetos seem to explain it to me: munchies and something to curb the nervous tics!

Kevin Federline, engaged to pop princess Britney Spears, is being sued in California small claims court for allegedly bouncing a check.

The cable program Celebrity Justice reported Tuesday Classic Chevrolet in Anaheim Hills, Calif., alleges Federline owes them $1,600 for a down payment on a truck.

Sources told Celebrity Justice the vehicle in question was a blue stick-shift Chevrolet pick-up. Federline had wanted a more expensive Chevy Monte Carlo, but the dealership turned him down.

Federline allegedly has been delinquent with the payments and the truck has since been repossessed.

There’s no word if Spears will come to Federline’s rescue.
