Summer was fun etc., but we’ve been riding unreasonable levels of excitement for the fall TV season; us high culture junkies are in need of a fix. And this fall more than any other — riding the well documented successes of the Alexandra Patsavas cabal and the “‘Young Folks’ Effect”? — the shows are out to hook you with their super hip music tastes. Take Gossip Girl, the new Josh Schwartz show aimed at trendy youngsters, kicking off right away with … “Young Folks.” Trend-setting stuff, right at the open. Or Dirty Sexy Money, the new Donald Sutherland show which featured a limo scene soundtracked by … “Young Folks.” Okay, no, let’s go to Californication, the David Duchovny-starring Showtime series with inter-segment segue music that’s … right, a legal rip of “Young Folks.”

I heard Rilo Kiley on Beauty and the Geek.
For Bionic Woman, they decided to go the opposite direction and give big-ups to the proto-punk of The New York Dolls. Personality Crisis was blasting out of the speakers in Jaime Sommers’ younger sister’s room.
Bionic Woman, had New York Dolls “Personality Crisis”… which was fun, and different, and apparently not PB&J.
I heard Man Man at every commercial break.
Young Folks is everywhere!
There were a few more songs in the Gossip Girl pilot – a band with Manhattan in the title I think.
And Feist at every other commercial break.
Gossip Girl also had JT’s “What Goes Around.”
I fucking love that The Little Ones song “Lovers who Uncover.” It came out a year ago and I still did a little happy dance when I heard it on The Hills.
Not that I am admitting to watching both Gossip Girl and The Hills in the same post. No, sir.
Forgot to mention Beck in the Chuck pilot (I don’t remember the song, but it was from The Information).

Private Practice had “I Don’t Feel Like Dancing” by the Scissor Sisters. I’m not sure why such a gay-friendly tune was playing while Addison was dancing naked. If it was a Taye Diggs naked dance? yes please!)

after the office on thursday, i left my tv on and ER was next. while i tried to ignore it, i heard spoon’s the underdog playing in the background while i think they were at some bar?

Hanson’s “Go” was in Gossip Girl hahaha.
Gossip Girl also featured the Cold War Kids’ “Hang Me Up To Dry”… magical.
“Dirty Sexy Money” also had a blantant rip-off of Spoon’s “The Way We Get By.” Between that and the “Young Folks,” I couldn’t really pay attention to the plot.
“Reaper” opened w/ Beck’s “Devil’s Haircut.” Fun pilot!
Reaper also dug deep for the 22-20s’ “Devil In Me”
