Morrissey was complaining about the smell of roasting dead things at Coachella. He ought to also be complaining about the deadbeat audience in the video for the newest (but also sort of oldest) Years Of Refusal track “Something Is Squeezing My Skull.” Anyhow, even if this song isn’t vintage Morrissey, the man still knows how to make the most out of his microphone chord. And he’s right, there is no love in modern life.

Years Of Refusal is out via Attack/Lost Highway.

Not necessarily related to the post, but I am not impressed by Morrissey’s backing band. His vocals are “vintage” Moz, but there is something lacking and it is the guy’s he has backing for him. Compare the last two albums to any of the albums with Boz Boorer on guitar. Very different. The new band doesn’t compliment Morrissey very well. They should be playing on the Warped tour or something like that, not with Morrissey.

Boz IS on this record. And in the touring band.

God Morrissey was such a whiny little bitch at Coachella last weekend, it was really painful to endure.

I love how the backing band had specific areas tabbed on stage where they could be (the little white boxes) in the waaay back of the stage, so Moz could dominate the whole front of the stage.

Ego, anybody? But the song is still cool :)

Per the comments about Alain Whyte’s absence — in actuality ,while Whyte does not perform with the band live, he still co-wrote 5 of the songs on Years of Refusal. The sound of the band has become more slick I think over the years — less ramshackle rockabilly vibe — but really its not that different.
