The Strokes On Letterman

They brought Angles’ most angular track to Late Night. They always seem to be at their most energetic for Letterman, but Julian Casablancas also wandered past the monitors and got on one knee toward the end. It prompted Letterman to say, “You all right? What’s the matter? I think you’re fine. You’re a little hard on yourself.” I wish Letterman would have asked Casablancas about the deal with Satan that keeps him looking as young as he did the first time they played Letterman. Watch:

Angles is out now.

  1. I think Julian was a little out of it because he was mad at himself for screwing up near the end.

nick’s the worst stroke. awkwardly balances his guitar, rudely turns away from letterman. meanwhile, jules bowls a strike at the end, fab stays put, looks sad and embarrassed as to what’s happened to the group.

damn good performance of one of the only good songs on angles. i’ll give this band another year before they announce some sort of breakup.

    • It was a damn good performance. I really think 6 out of the 10 songs on the album are pretty darn awesome. Machu Picchu, Under Cover of Darkness, Two Kinds of Happiness, Taken for a Fool, Gratisfaction, and Life is Simple in the Moonlight are all catchy as hell and have some cool inspiration (Cars-Tom Petty-Lou Reed – Reggae). The other 4 songs aren’t horrible. Games is a grower and the last 2 mins of that song are the strongest. Metabolism could be a B side off of FIOE and has some sick guitar in it.
You’re so Right is probably the biggest departure from the traditional “Strokes Sound” but I’ve found to like it more over time and Call Me Back is kind of like a modern day lullaby. In no way is the album perfect but I would give it a 7.5 out of 10. Definitely more fulfilling than FIOE and something that all Strokes fans will enjoy. If you’re a hater you prob like crappy radio rock or just don’t like the band for personal reasons. Get over it, The Strokes aren’t breaking up and WILL be putting out new music a lot quicker this time around. Can’t wait to see them at MSG!

    • haters gonna hate.

    • Nick is the most don’t-give-a-fuck Stroke. It’s kind of refreshing.

  3. They sounded great and the song is better than most other garbage coming out these days. What is the problem?

  4. Such a freaking killer song. I mean seriously.

  5. love the song, love the energy. the boys are back.

  6. Ha I love how he cues the band with “RADIO ENDING”

    • Point taken. “Take it Or Leave It” is their best performance on late night TV, overseas included. Though it’s always good to see Jules act out of character and give some extra energy to the performance. The band feeds off of that, especially Fab. Wish that happened more often and hope it HAPPENS more often in the future. Whenever you see Jules tug at his collar when performing live as he did for “Taken For A Fool”, or step away from the mic and jab his arms violently in a downward-crossing motion as he did for “Take It Or Leave It”, you’ll know it’s gonna be good.

  7. I feel bad for Julian, he always seems to get pissed whenever he messes up, even if it’s just a little bit.

  8. I am not trying to be mean or anything, but Julian looks like death, Jessica. If that is all the Devil could give him, he got ripped off.

  9. Great performance from these guys! Much better than the SNL ones. They actually seem to be having fun here.

  10. I feel confident that somewhere, The Picture of Julian Casablancas is moldering away in a closet, covered by a tarp, and where an Adonis-like image once shone from the canvas, something more like the Crypt Keeper from Tales of the Crypt glares balefully. Julian seems to get more attractive as the years go by. The bastard.

  11. Why are The Strokes so amazing?

  12. So glad NBC still hasn’t taken this down yet.

  13. I think they are satanic, their energy, their lyrics, Julian seems doomed and see the songs from his new album, and I have nothing against them, it’s more I was a big fan
