Pentagram - Last Rites

Classic (i.e. four decades-old) Virginia heavy rock/metal doom legends Pentagram’s ninth studio album Last Rites is out next month. It’s the first since 1994′s Be Forewarned to find longtime guitarist Victor Griffin, who plays/writes on all the early records, working with vocalist/signature demon-chasing member Bobby Liebling, so it feels more monumental than some of the more recent piecemeal productions. (The recent triumphant live shows also help.) The newest incarnation’s rounded out by bassist Greg Turley and new drummer Albert Born, and it all sounds pretty damn vintage. See, for instance, moody Last Rites standout “8,” the longest track on the record.

Last Rites:

01 “Treat Me Right”
02 “Call The Man”
03 “Into the Ground”
04 “8″
05 “Everything’s Turning To Night”
06 “Windmills And Chimes”
07 “American Dream”
08 “Walk In Blue Light”
09 “Horseman”
10 “Death In 1st Person”
11 “Nothing Left”

Last Rites is out 4/12 via Metal Blade. Mo Moussa did the cover art. You can hear the first single “Call The Man” streaming at Decibel (who put Bobby on the cover of the new issue). Opener “Treat Me Right”’s up at Metal Blade.

  2. Hey Brandon, sorry to get off topic a bit, but have you heard about this yet? very exciting…

“Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of OLD SILVER KEY, a brand new band born from the hyperactive mind of DRUDKH mainman Roman Saenko and consisting of four DRUDKH members plus French artist Neige (ALCEST, AMESOEURS) on vocals. The aim of this new project is to create nostalgic, romantic and light atmosphere of solitude, beholding, childhood and warmth. The first album is already in recording process.

    • Whoa, I had a strange day yesterday–missed that. Pretty amazing news. Going to write Season Of Mist now and see what’s up…. thanks for tip.
