Pentagram – “8”

Classic (i.e. four decades-old) Virginia heavy rock/metal doom legends Pentagram’s ninth studio album Last Rites is out next month. It’s the first since 1994’s Be Forewarned to find longtime guitarist Victor Griffin, who plays/writes on all the early records, working with vocalist/signature demon-chasing member Bobby Liebling, so it feels more monumental than some of the more recent piecemeal productions. (The recent triumphant live shows also help.) The newest incarnation’s rounded out by bassist Greg Turley and new drummer Albert Born, and it all sounds pretty damn vintage. See, for instance, moody Last Rites standout “8,” the longest track on the record.
