Ponytail is not for everyone. But the best way to know if Ponytail is for you is to listen to “Celebrate The Body Electric (It Came From An Angel),” in all seven minutes of its ecstatic ambition. Until they entirely reinvent themselves it will be their signature song, so it’s just as well that this is by far their showpiece video. It’s a great visual interpretation of their loopy, spastic, sugar-buzzed jags and thrusts, mixing hypercolor backdrops and swirls to hypercut imagery, the violence of smashed fluorescent light rods and the juvenile joys of amusement parks/roller skating rinks/double dutch, perverted children’s photos, and of course backdrops of psychedelic bursts that look something like kaleidoscopic spermy orgasms. Or something. Nice job, director Sophia Peer.
