Friend is the London-based remixing songwriter Jesse Kanda. He blends traditional-sounding Asian music with Tropicália, a more electro R&B dance-floor streak, and elements from the chanty indie-rock sphere. It’s kind of tapping into a Lucky Dragons/Rainbow Arabia/El Guincho vibe, but with more mysterious graphic design and a stripped-down Caribou-esque psychedelia. See, for instance, “Doki” a track from the forthcoming Shima EP. The images in the video might look familiar if you’ve watched films by Wong Kar-Wai. That said, it’s more about the orange and blue processed hues. That, and the waterfalls and palm trees.

You’ll find other songs and remixes at his MySpace, according to which he’s unsigned.

hate to be ‘that’ guy, but don’t you mean Caribou?
I hate to be the guy who adds extra “s”s to words, so we’re even. Fixed.
