Last year was the year of Black Mountain; this is the year of BM’s spawn. The Vancouver band’s best-known alternate collective, Pink Mountaintops, delivered its third LP Outside Love on the reliable Jagjaguwar label earlier this month, featuring lead beard Stephen McBean, the Sisters Webber (Amber and Ashley), and folks outside the Mountain assembly including Jesse Sykes and Sophie Trudeau (she from the Godspeed/A Silver Mt. Zion side of Canada). This summer it’s Lightning Dust’s turn with Infinite Light. LD’s always had less sprawl to its roster — a streamlined duo comprising Black Mountain mates Amber Webber and Joshua Wells — and consequently less sprawl to its highly melodic sounds. Lead Infinite single “I Knew” marries Martin Rev keys to Fleetwood Mac styles and clocks out in a swift 2:30. Streamlined, yes, and melodic as ever.

Infinite Light is out 8/4 via Jagjaguwar. Here’s a tracklist:

“Antonia Jane”
“I Knew”
“Dreamer”
“The Times”
“Never Seen”
“History”
“Honest Man”
“Waiting On The Sun To Rise”
“Wondering What Everyone Knows”
“Take It Home”
