Seattle’s Cave Singers work a vintage, folky, vocal-rich aesthetic, but the trio evokes a very different vibe than hometown favorites Fleet Foxes. Raspy Pete Quirk, who used to play in Hint Hint, possesses a classic sounding, affecting voice — thinking some kind combo of Harry Nilsson, Arlo Guthrie, the Gordons Gano and Lightfoot, and other dudes I can’t place right now. And guitarist Derek Fudesco was a member of Pretty Girls Make Graves and Murder City Devils, so you have lineage on your side if you think there’s something ballsier going on in the wispy, sun-spotted tunes (here, note the escalating drone). The Singers are releasing their second album Welcome Joy in August. For now, check out lead track “Beach House.”

The collection includes guest vocals from Amber Webber (Black Mountain, Lightning Dust) and Ashley Webber (Lightning Dust). The guys are out on tour with Lightning Dust this September and October, so expect some overlaps.
Welcome Joy is out 8/18 via Matador.

I love this.
Oh this sounds good!
I’m not really digging the album cover though…
this song shows some progression in the perfect direction. Can NOT wait for this album
Harry Nilsson, Arlo Guthrie, the Gordons Gano and Lightfoot? I dunno, sounds more like David Gray + Bob Dylan to me ….
First time I saw them was with Fleet Foxes… they opened for Laura Gibson at the Doug Fir.
If anybody needs a quit your day job post it is these guys! The lead singer just delivered me a package!
A package? Are you buying drugs from Pete Quirk?
