Slowly but surely rising above the NYC fray, local boys the Head Set have won a couple of us over through the years, dutifully turning out solid opening sets for bigger acts sweeping through the LES, slowly distinguishing themselves vis a vis the Walkmen and the Strokes and the other definite article crews. Things have been a little quiet on the Set front these past months, and just as we’d started wondering about their whereabouts we got word the band had been holed up in the studio for a season, working on a new batch of tracks for a forthcoming, as yet untitled EP. First listen’s a nostalgic, city-rock gem. Grab “Girls With A Past,” toast the Head Set’s good looking future:

The band’s playing Mercury Lounge this Wednesday 11/28 with Drug Rug and Dead Confederate. Info here.

Enjoy.

This band is a great change from a lot of the NY bands I’ve heard recently. These guys have big songs…who’s releasing the record?
