Richard Hawley at Other Music, New York City 12/3/07

Other Music, home of the most finely curated instore performance series in Manhattan (for whatever that’s worth these days, true — but still, can’t do much better anywhere). Recently OM launched its new film series documenting their instores with a St. Vincent performance during CMJ, with more to come from folks like Vampire Weekend and No Age (both also filmed that week), White Williams, Celebration, and last night’s guest, Richard Hawley.

Slow start to the night with 40 minutes of pre-show sound issues (and therefore 40 more minutes of people in line braving the cold). But Hawley, with a second guitarist in tow, lost no time getting down to business, lighting up the room with “Just Like Rain”‘s opening chords. The seven song acoustic set translated seamlessly from his larger-than-life Bowery gig on Saturday. Famous for his spectrum spanning covers (anything from the Everly Brothers to the Jesus and Mary Chain), the inclusion of Ricky Nelson’s “Lonesome Town” was the best suprise of the night.

Take the jump for setlist, some more pics, and lo-fi vid if you just can’t wait for OM’s high-grade good stuff.
