Laurel Halo

Laurel Halo’s new Hippos In Tanks 12″ Hour Logic — one of our favorite EPs of the year (so far) — largely sets aside the skewed sci-fi pop sensibility and focused vocal of last year’s King Felix in favor of lower key techno production experiments. “Constant Index” is one of few to prominently feature her singing, though it’s essentially removed from the table in this minimal rework from Splazsh creator and Thom Yorke fave Actress, making it a good thematic fit with the rest of the EP. You’ll have to wait for Laurel’s next release for her to pick up on the cosmic-pop strains of “Supersymmetry” and “Metal Confection,” though waiting the two minutes for the beat to drop on this remix is a shorter test of patience and its own sort of satisfying.

The Hour Logic EP is out via Hippos In Tanks. Get started with its fantastic lead single “Aquifer.”
