In addition to speaking in sexy French accents, here Phoenix perform “Lisztomania,” “1901,” and the older “One Time Too Many.” You’ve likely already seen performances of those tracks, but things get stripped down in the Spinner studios — acoustic, no drums — which adds a janglier feel to the Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and It’s Never Been Like That songs. If you stick around for the interview, you’ll see them talk about why they chose bands like Passion Pit and Chairlift to open for them, what they like about Fleet Foxes and Grizzly Bear, and the best thing about being in a band.

They recently played a WFUV session too. That one’s got Air’s “Playground Love.” Thomas is no longer sick and the band is about to head on a massive tour that carries them into late November. You can investigate at MySpace.

  1. I love Phoenix but it wasn’t until just now did I realize what Clay Aiken has been up to all these years.

I drove from Arizona to see these guys live in L.A. It was such an amazing concert, they’re so passionate live. I highly recommend anyone who has an opportunity to go see them.

  9. love phoenix, but the latest may be my least favorite album of theirs.BTW,does anyone know if they’re playing “1901″ on the radio, because i’ve noticed a lot of myspace “friends”,that have real shit taste in music have been adding that song to their pages lately.

  10. haha “R. Kelly”… ah you silly French people, comme vous êtes drôles!

  11. Clay Aiken? eff off! I think he’s very cute. The accent doesn’t hurt, of course. God I love Phoenix. These accoustic sets are wonderful! I wouldn’t say this is my least favorite album; I’d definitely say this and “United” are my favorites. I would violently shake a baby to see Passion Pit open for them (or the other way around haha).

  12. the guitarist looks like he’s gonna kill someone

  13. I’ve ripped the songs without re-encoding. Mind you, they’re AAC. Enjoy.

I’m not the most computer-savvy. Is there a way to convert aac to mp3 so I can play it on Itunes?

  15. I feel like Phoenix and Passion Pit are the two big hype bands right now in the blogosphere. They’re good, but seriously, not that good.

their live version of lisztomania lacks all the energy that makes the album version good.

    • john b  |   Posted on Jul 15th, 2009

i guess they probably don’t normally play it acoustic? i guess that could explain it. either way. the acoustic version of lisztomania is not very good.
