After some fan footage of Weezer doing a dual MGMT/Lady Gaga cover became a (relatively) minor YouTube sensation, =w= had no choice but to edit together a supercut of the crowd-pleaser for official embed purposes. Rivers keeps up with the kids admirably on the band’s reverent MGMT spin/Gaga segue, and not so much with the video’s old-school overlay/background design. Haven’t decided about his sunglasses selections yet.
Nice job, Weezer. And somewhat related: In his entertaining one-man show at UCB, comedian Gabe Liedman refers to Lady Gaga as an “avant-garde tranny supernova,” which is just about my favorite phrase ever.

this shit is WACK
I thought the MGMT cover was probably the best thing I’ve heard from Weezer in ages. “Pokerface” sounds awful, but I get the feeling that’s not Weezer’s fault.
Aren’t they suppose to cover the Deftones or something?
Great Post guys. I am an avid reader of Stereogum. I have a site of my own: http://www.therockczar.com. Check it out and let me know what you think. Keep up the good work!
-28 and counting. That’s what we think.
weezer + synths = fail.
this is five minutes of awful.
agreed.
Weezer has sucked since 2008. I mean 2009.
What happened to Weezer?
is it weird that i like their cover of kids better than the original?
I AM GUILTY OF LOVING THIS
Not really sure these covers are “necessary”. Weezer are a great live band as well but musically its a bit lacking at this stage
i am also guilty of loving this. i can’t help it. glorious.
Yeah, this is “guilty pleasure” defined. Kinda like a car wreck–you’re vaguely repulsed, yet can’t turn away.
This “supercut” video, frankly, sucks. It is an annoying mish-mash of scenes that cut too quickly and seem odddly ordered and plain old cheesy. Crap.
