Kanye West & Jay-Z @ VMAs 2011

Mercifully, Kanye and Jay-Z took the MTV VMA stage about 20 minutes into the broadcast to perform “Otis.” Daddy-to-be Hov and ’Ye walked down a long runway replete with American imagery, bypassing a Soy Bomber, and then the existential dread began to sink in as we realized we’re stuck with the Video Music Awards for the remaining 90 minutes after they had thrown their biggest “surprise” punch (Odd Future/”Future Beastie Boys” dance-off notwithstanding).

  1. When I first heard I invented swag… I didn’t believe it… now I do

  2. haha. justin bieber’s a little s**t

  3. at 1:50 in Kanye and Jay’Z's performance some guy jumps on stage and is pulled off by security.

  4. …they censored “murk”?

    • MTV seems pretty bleep happy tonight. The only non-bleeped thing I heard in Tyler, The Creator’s acceptance speech was ‘golfwang.’

  5. Pregnonce!

  6. Now for Kanye and Jay-Z celebrating the belly rub.

  7. Every “winner” and pretty much every performer on this horsesh*t broadcast, is on Universal or Sony/BMG. And Sony made damn sure to give Adele hilarious technical awards to keep her about to die hype going.

  8. did swag win for word of the year??

  9. Weak….no wonder Mtv doesn’t play music videos anymore…well except by artists it has a vested interest in promoting……..WEAK!

  10. That was by far the most under-whelming, non-eventful VMAs in quite some time. I don’t watch the show expecting to get anything out of it musically, but at the very least I watch it for a juicy VMA moment people will be talking about the next morning. Here I was expecting OFWGKTA to do something controversial, but they end up being humble in a flood of curse words. Here I am expecting Gaga and Britney to lez it up, but it turns out Britney finally has a sense of self-awareness a decade too late. Jay-Z and Kanye ran around stage while pyro and smoke went off, while Lil’ Wayne just ran around.

  11. Do these awards actually mean anything? No. No, they don’t. Let’s move on, shall we?

  12. that was cool and I couldn’t help but notice that the stage looked like a huge vagina

  13. This whole awards show was so damn awkward to watch, Chris Brown flying around the stage like Peter-Pan??? Common…

  14. is anyone gonna take the stick out of their ass for long enough to mention how fucking awesome lady gaga was?

  15. Is it me, or did Jay-Z seem really out of breath the whole time?

  16. “Sorry, we’re unable to offer this video to users in your region.”

    Like hell you’re unable.

  17. I don’t know if it was scripted or not, but Lady Gaga trying to kiss Britney was LOL. And it’s shocking how sane Britney looked.

  18. Beautiful performance. Especially when the guy got pulled off stage

  19. Fuck, I just hate hip hop, always the same song, over and over… Is it the way for people that likes post rock to show they are not boring?
