Wavves - "I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl"

Churlish punk pop posterboys Wavves dropped a new pre-VMAs single, “I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl” at virtually the same time as they were complaining about the VMAs themselves. It’s a strong, focused, hook-laden effort (despite the fact that these dudes have been all over the map lately) and our first listen to their forthcoming Life Sux.

Still no word on if Wavves frontman Nathan Williams actually met Dave Grohl, but apparently Williams’ manager did.

“I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl” will be heard in the premiere of MTV’s I Just Want My Pants Back after the VMAs.

Wavves’ Life Sux EP is out 9/20 on Ghost Ramp.

  1. Don’t we all wanna meet Dave Grohl..

  2. I Wanna Beat Dave Grohl…

  3. Anyone else catch the Wavves namedrop in I Just Want My Pants Back?

    Doesn’t bode well… http://stereogum.com/2241/four_kings_namedrops_arcade_fire/news/

    • With all due respect Scott, shouldn’t we be unsurprised/desensitized to namedropping of “under the radar” bands in TV shows geared toward a younger, hipper demographic these days? The O.C. pretty much blew the door wide open on that by putting a Transatlantacism poster in Seth Cohen’s bedroom. The Gilmore Girls saw Lane talking about The Shins (who later made a guest appearance alongside Yo La Tengo and Sonic Youth.) The short-lived American version of SKINS was a haven for hipster culture references. Degrassi recently namedropped Arcade Fire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKxCKvMPRYY.) Fucked Up might be the only band safe from making its way out of the mouth of some 18 year old teen drama start due solely to a censorship technicality.

  4. These guys can do no wrong, but the premise and lyrics of this song are rather silly. Lyrics aside, still a great song to accompany some hippie lettuce.

  5. Love these guys, but c’mon…the “Never gonna ____” hook was good the first couple times. Also, we were already never gonna stop you from being the King of the Beach. I don’t think we’ll be able to ever stop you from Meeting Dave Grohl.

  6. Fuckk yahhhhhhhh

  7. I just wanna hear the Nathan Williams/Zach Hill collaboration

  8. You’ll be able to catch Wavves in Austin at Wild Frontier Fest September 10 & 11!!!!!

  9. Wavves are anything but consistent (like you said, they’ve been all over the map), but they have been consistently great. I can’t wait for the EP.

  10. I want to meet Dave Grohl’s hair. Handsome devil..
