If you’ve listened to the beloved/reviled Vivian Girls’ self-titled debut (or any of the band’s singles) you’ll have a good idea of what to expect from the trio’s sophomore collection Everything Goes Wrong. Meaning, even with its tiny bit of extra vocal polish and slightly denser sound, “When I’m Gone” conjures Black Tambourine and finds its strength via semi-buried spectral harmonies. The relative sameness of the Girls output isn’t a problem: On record, the Brooklyn noise-poppers do what they do well, creating starry, dusky fuzzed-out sounds that feel like they’re being overheard from someone’s old boom box the next room over. Take a look at the rather lovely (and aesthetically fitting) album art while you take a listen.

Lets face it, Vivian Girls are not good at all. Guys like them because Kickball Katy is outrageously hot, and girls like them because it makes them believe they that even if you have little to no talent, you too can start some all girl lo-fi indie rock band and get national recognition for it. I am not even close to being a sexist, and can admit this. With all this said, I am still going to see them in Champaign, IL at the Cowboy Monkey. That bar is tiny, and I will probably get the chance to meet them. Love that Kickball Katy!

i think it sounds kinda cool, its not all about skill, more about style with vivian girls

I don’t get/don’t like Vivian Girls and probably never will, but this song is the closest thing to decent I’ve heard from them. I understand the whole lo-fi thing and I know that making good music isn’t always about flawless execution, but I take issue with this band’s lack of imagination. I feel like Vivian Girls is ALL about the style and the music is just an afterthought.

can’t believe i just listened to this. one of the worst songs i’ve ever heard. seriously. i’ve never listened to the vivian girls before and i never will again. this is worse than wavves! that being said…LOVE how the drummer doesn’t know how to play. gives them that real rugged sound that every bands going for!

  8. i am eating/gobbling this up!

I heard the album’s second track title is a quote they pulled from a poll where they asked 5,000 music enthusiasts with functioning ears and good taste what they thought of listening to this band.
