The German electronic production duo Modeselektor are longtime friends and occasional collaborators with Thom Yorke, and Yorke shows up twice on their new album Monkeytown. You’ve previewed both, but both of the songs that feature Yorke are more than six minutes long, and both of them are worthy of your attention in full.
The first, “Shipwreck,” is what you’d expect from a Modeselektor/Yorke collab: A stretched-out IDM/krautrock hybrid that makes great use of Yorke’s falsetto. But “This” is the one that really has me amped. Over a twinkling, bass-heavy electro rumble, Modeselektor chop Yorke’s voice up into countless wordless shards. Listen to both songs below. I don’t know how long these leaked YouTube streams will be up, so listen fast.
Monkeytown is out 10/4 on Modeselektor’s own Monkeytown Records.
