Aphex Twin

This past weekend in Wroclaw, Poland, both Radiohead multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood and enigmatic electronic eminence Aphex Twin debuted new orchestral works alongside the hard-to-spell Polish avant-garde composer Krzysztof Penderecki. Greenwood and Aphex both debuted works that remixed or reworked older works from Penderecki, and both of them joined an orchestra onstage to perform those works. We’ve got video of some of those performances below.

Check out Greenwood, Penderecki, and some dramatic lighting doing “48 Responses To Polymorphia” below. Also below, watch Aphex and Penderecki doing “Threnody For The Victims Of Hiroshima” and the terrifying 10-minute drone “Polymorphia Reloaded.” The best part in either video might come at the end of “Polymorphia Reloaded,” when Aphex steps out in front of the orchestra and throws a hilariously awkward thumbs-up.

  1. Any idea what those things are that they’re shaking and hitting their cellos with?
