Whitney Houston - "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"

A tipster recently let us know that Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. covered Whitney Houston’s 1987 nugget “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” quite possibly my wife’s favorite song in the entire history of the universe, at a recent Bowery Ballroom show. As it turns out, Dale have been covering the track live for at least a few weeks, and somebody in Denver caught pretty good video of it. Listen to the maybe-ironic cover and marvel at the duo’s garish jackets below.

In related news, the “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” video is way better than I remember it being.

  1. interesting…

  2. Huh, their cover almost bridges the gap between “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” that I never realized was there.

Also, Whitney Houston’s ability to pull off wearing half as many different colors in her eyeshadow as those dudes have in their jacket is really impressive.

Also also, while not her favorite song in the entirety of universe, my mom did love the hell out of this song, and that album cover is like a shot of pure 80s/childhood straight into my heart.

  3. Fugly jackets, good cover!

  4. That was my first Dale Jr Jr show and it was a blast. Also my first visit to NYC!

  5. Actually Erin. They stole the idea from Whitney … Duh.

  6. way to be ahead of the curve, d.e. jr. jr.
