elite gymnastics - Ruin 3

Over the summer, the internet-addled production duo elite gymnastics released their sparkling Ruin 1 & 2 collection online, and it was enough to generate a ton of buzz and get them signed to Acéphale, the label that’s legit-releasing the digital version of Ruin 1 & 2 this week. And soon, elite gymnastics will also release Ruin 3, a new collection of other artists reinterpreting their tracks. CFCF, Physical Therapy, Unicorn Kid, and others will contribute. Below, we’ve got the mutant-R&B auteur How To Dress Well’s tender, funereal take on the rattling dance-pop track “h e r e i n h e a v e n.” And in case you missed it the first time, we’ve also got the original below.

Ruin 3 will be out for free online in mid-November. Ruin 1 & 2 will also have a physical version featuring a chapbook full of the egz guys’ art and such via Acéphale.

  1. someone is gunning for the artist of the year. why can’t you ever mess-up htdw?

  2. the name makes me think of our 2008 US women’s gymnastic team. but the sound makes me think of much music’s dance mix 94, maybe 95. Colliding worlds these days in the music business. really enjoyin’ the direction these cats are taking by mixing gymnastics and dance mixes. looking forward to 2012 and to mixin’ that with dance mix 96. ;)

  3. i liked the underworld version of “pearls girl” better in ’96.

    • Yeeeah, one part of me is like “this is really good,” and the other half realizes that the reason it seems fresh compared to what’s currently out there in indie-dom is because it’s aping a sound/time no one else is aping right now. : /
