Black Star,

Way the hell back in 1998, underground-rap leading lights Mos Def and Talib Kweli teamed up to record the collaborative album Mos Def And Talib Kweli Are Black Star. They’ve both stayed plenty busy in the years since, but beyond the odd one-off collab or show, Black Star haven’t returned as a duo since that first album. That’s finally starting to change.

This summer, the duo toured together, performing their album in full as part of the Rock The Bells fest. And last night, they appeared together on The Colbert Report. During the interview segment, they did a decent job keeping up with Colbert, who had a whole lot of fun with the fact that Mos is now using the name Yasiin Bey. They also performed a queasy new track called “Fix Up.” And as a web-only exclusive, they also did the Black Star classic “Astronomy (8th Light).” Watch all those videos below.

All these years, and they still have that onstage chemistry.

  2. Ha, I just got that maybe you meant “Queasy” in a colloquial sense… I was kinda crossed with you for a bit.
    haha. I’m slow.

Anyway I’m excited to hear that track on tape, Damn, that Madlib beat, their flows! I always loved their interplay rapping on tracks! I’m too excited. Haha

  3. Very dope.

  4. They make it look effortless.

  5. So the question is… why did they cancel all their upcoming tour dates?? Hopefully this is a sign that they’ll be rescheduling them soon…
