From his Mexican food cart in Portland Jesse Sandoval tells Portland Mercury, “I have to own up to my own faults. There were some drumbeats he asked me to do, and I just couldn’t do them. … But I also understand that I unequivocally got fired, and it kind of confuses me why he has a hard time saying that.” More here.

    SNL performance blew…

  2. I think most of us already safely assumed that is what happened. James Mercer’s new Shins are the indie equivalent of Billy Corgan’s current Smashing Pumpkins these days.

Finally, someone has said this. That is exactly what I was going to write. Billy Corgan has gotten torn apart for what he has done with the Pumpkins, so how is what James Mercer doing any different? God forbid Pitchfork make any bad remarks about Mercer, they still praise him, but they never pass up an opportunity to rip on Corgan for doing the same things.

That’s because James still writes good music and Billy doesn’t. How can you even compare the two? Billy’s a joke, and an asshole. I hate James for kicking out Marty and Jesse. They were the heart of the band. The Shins are very boring live now. At least Eric Johnson is still in there. Best thing they’ve done was adding him to the lineup.
