Yo La Tengo’s been generous with advance listens of their lovely and nostalgic new collection Popular Songs, so far offering previews via a pair of must-grab MP3s (the chilled-out ’60s organ funk of “Periodically Double Or Triple,” the Melody Nelson strings of “Here To Fall“) and a raucous live take (see “Nothing To Hide” for French TV). The breezy, impossibly summery “Avalon Or Something Very Similar” makes it an even four from the set, here soundtracking visuals of sugarcube-sweet faces, and hypnotic triangles, and green parks, by director John McSwain. It’s a nice mesh, pour a julep and enjoy.
