Paul Simon Planning Graceland Tour, Box Set

Paul Simon plans to release a box set commemorating the 25th anniversary of his seminal Graceland sometime next spring, and that release will be accompanied by a tour. The box set will include a documentary by director Joe Berlinger, who documented an intimate July concert with Hugh Masekela and Ladysmith Black Mambazo that took place in South Africa. Simon on the doc:

“The documentary,” Simon said, “took me back to the artistic aspects and the political aspects of making Graceland and the controversy that surrounded it and how it was resolved, plus what remains of it and what we learn from it.”

There you go. Also, Simon plans to reunite Ladysmith Black Mambazo, his touring band from 1987, for the jaunt. Curiously, since Simon recently licensed his catalog to Sony Legacy, the Graceland box will be out on Sony, as opposed to its original label, Warner Brothers.

  1. Sweet. I will buy that.

  2. I almost without a doubt can say that I was the only 4th grader in my school jamming out to this. Secretly of course.

  3. It might be misleading to say Paul Simon is “reuniting” Ladysmith Black Mambazo. They’ve been making records and touring since long before Graceland and have continued to be very musically active in the 25 years since.
