Miles from their beloved Baltimore, Wye Oak’s Andy Stack and Jenn Waster gamely jumped into an air-conditioned Yaris outside a Merge Showcase and played us an intimate, stripped-down and strummed “I Don’t Feel Young” from their forthcoming debut If Children. You might remember the album version from when Jenn spoke to us about Cal Ripken’s “Iron Bench” at the restaurant where she works. Same song … but this take was recorded in the backseat of a car.

Good thing they didn’t decide to do the Velocity Girl-y “Warning.” It might have knocked the roof off.

If Children is out 4/8 on Merge.

Love Wye Oak’s music. Jenn is right about Baltimore; you won’t find much if you don’t know where to look.
