The Brooklyn Band To Watch Friends now has a video for the catchy-as-hell bubblefunk single “I’m His Girl,” and I’m not dissing at all when I call it Kreayshawn-esque. The whole thing, with its fashionably retro camerawork and its energetic portrayal of too-cool New York street life, works as a sort of East Coast take on Kreayshawn’s (still great!) “Gucci Gucci” video. Friends leader Samantha Urbani co-directs alongside Aurora Halal. Watch it below.

“I’m His Girl” is out on 7” and on digital download 10/31 via Lucky Numbers. And unsurprisingly enough, Friends will be all over NYC this week for CMJ. Here’s a list of their CMJ shows:

10/18 – Brooklyn, NY @ 285 Kent (11:30PM)
11/20 – Brooklyn, NY @ FADER Converse At Rubber Tracks Studios (9:15PM)
11/20 – New York, NY @ Le Poisson Rouge (11PM)
11/21 – New York, NY @ The Soho House (11PM)
10/22 – Brooklyn, NY @ Public Assembly (Brooklyn Vegan Day Party)
10/22 – Brooklyn, NY @ Shea Stadium (12AM)

  1. If this weren’t so intensely annoying, it probably wouldn’t be as good. It’s pretty good. But incredibly annoying at the same time. Really enjoying the growl in the bass here. And the Roissian lyric, natch.

  2. Very Madonnaesque and fuckin’ BRILLIANT!!!! It has the feel of an early 80′s NYC cityscape and pure punk-dance-pumping-sweat dripping on hot summer night! I seriously will be watching this band!
