Judee Sill died of a drug overdose in 1979 at the age of 35 after releasing two classic collections, Judee Sill and Heart Food. Frida Hyvönen’s gorgeous take on the California folkie’s ’71 track “Jesus Was A Crossmaker” debuted in this week’s ‘Gum Drop. We asked Hyvönen about her relationship with Sill’s music, the song she opted to cover, and what it all means to her. You can read her responses while you take a listen. The track’s part of Crayon Angel: A Tribute to the Music of Judee Sill out 9/22 via American Dust. (You might remember Dan Rossen’s take on “Waterfall” from the same collection.)

This week we also offered a chance to Jack White’s bloody video outfit and Third Man Records goodies. We’re not joking.

One winner gets to take home the clothing Jack wore when Alison Mosshart shot him up in the “Treat Me Like Your Mother” video. Best Halloween outfit ever? Maybe. In case you don’t remember what the threads look like, here are some stills:

The winner also gets a three-month Third Man Platinum Membership and a copy of Dead Weather’s Horehound on double LP. Enter to win! There’s also some time to snag that Chrome Warsaw messenger pack and Champ cycling jacket.

CONTEST ENDS 09/02/09 AT 12PM EST.
