On Monday, the great ’90s narco-folk duo returned, releasing the woozily beautiful comeback single “Common Burn“/”Lay Myself Down.” And as it turns out, that’s just a taste of what’s to come. According to NME, the group is planning to release an as-yet-untitled new album in 2012; it’ll be their first since 1996′s Among My Swan. And before the album drops, they also intend to tour. Note to prospective audience members: It is absolutely acceptable to slow-dance when they play “Fade Into You.” Knock yourselves out.

When I saw them in the early 90s, they got through three whole songs before Hope cussed out an audience member and walked offstage. Dear Prima Donna: “Fuck you” too. Sincerely, me.
Now let’s get Mark Kozelek to stop fronting solo acoustic shows, get Red House Painters back together, do a joint tour with Mazzy Star all while we’re all rocking bright red Manic Panic dyed hair.
