Cass McCombs fourth LP Catacombs is a stunner on its own (add it to yesterday’s list of Domino’s 2009 triumphs), and now is two-for-two in yielding beautifully compelling videos. Aaron Brown directs the clip for Cass’s Norman Mailer-repurposing “The Executioner’s Song,” a crisply rendered portrait of a working man’s passion for his job, showing the quiet details — and then the one loud one — that make his a creepy labor of love. (If you re-read that song title this will all make some sense, but even more so after you watch this video to the end.)

    Blows big time? Come on. This is one of Catacombs’ best tracks.
