Tinariwen & TVOTR on Colbert

Last night’s guest on The Colbert Report was Tinariwen, “from a North African nomadic tribe, which means they’re always on tour.” (Also: “Our guests tonight are a North African refugee band, so their living conditions are slightly better than most American bands.”) Joining them for the interview and performance of “Tenere Taqqim Tossam” were TV On The Radio’s Kyp Malone and Tunde Adibempe. (“Kyp, I’m glad to see you’re still winning the beard battle.”) Writing posts about Colbert is fun because Colbert writes posts for you. Also don’t you just feel some right-wing news station is going to find some way to repurpose this footage of Colbert letting turbaned North Africans jam on his show in some decontextualized and scaremongering way? Here’s Tinariwen + TVOTR, and the Q&A, and the web exclusive of “Imidiwan Ma Tenam.”
