The Black Keys on Colbert

The Black Keys should already feel comfortable on the Colbert Report stage; they were there earlier this year to clown themselves for having so many damn songs in TV commercials. Last night, they were there for a marginally more dignified reason: To sit for an interview with Colbert and to play a couple of songs from El Camino, their current reigning Album Of The Week.

In the interview, however, they come off as total doofuses. That’s OK! Rock guys are allowed to be doofuses, and it gives Colbert more room to be funny. The band also performs “Lonely Boy,” and as a web exclusive, “Gold On The Ceiling,” sounding way better than they did playing the exact same songs on SNL and generally giving some idea why they’re allowed to be doofuses. (And seriously, SNL needs to make The Colbert Report’s sound person an offer.) Watch the interview and the performances below.

The Black Keys’ El Camino is out now on Nonesuch.
