Cults on Yo Gabba Gabba

As just about any parent of toddlers knows, Yo Gabba Gabba! is a Nick Jr. television program about a group of creatures who frequently get together to dance and/or learn life lessons, and it has the amazing ability to hypnotize your children for minutes at a time, thus granting you priceless opportunities to do things like eat an entire sandwich or wash your hands. And the show also tends to feature altrockish celebrity guests.

In the show’s forthcoming Christmas special, one of those guests is the New York indie-pop duo Cults, a couple so young that they’re really not that far outside Yo Gabba Gabba!’s demographic. On the show, they sing the minute-long song “Hot Chocolate” written by Ben Schultz and Steve Berrett. Their appearance features the creatures dancing behind them, which means my daughter won’t want to fast-forward through it. Watch it below.

Yo Gabba Gabba!’s “A Very Awesome Christmas” airs 12/18 at 8PM Eastern on Nick Jr., and it also features appearances from Tony Hawk, Mark Mothersbaugh, My Chemical Romance, and (huh) Tori Spelling.

  1. I wish I hadn’t watched that.

  2. Take a look, it’s in a book, a Reading Rainbowwwww!

  3. Someday when you have a kid, and you’re looking to maintain your last shred of indie cred – you’ll realize Yo Gabba Gabba! is a truly amazing show. My 2 year old loves it and knows all the characters by name. I get to watch the likes of The Shins, MGMT, The Roots, I’m From Barcelona and of course – Weezer, play kids songs. We discovered that the first 2 seasons are on Netflix instant-stream, and our weekend mornings have never been the same since.

  4. Aa ya ee ya, I really want to drink hot chocolate.
