This week we posted the last of our esteemed colleagues’ Best Albums Of 2011 rankings, and in case you missed any, here’s a LIST of those LISTS:

We also began posting the results of The Gummy Awards, our annual readers’ poll. There a few category results left to reveal, and if Bon Iver’s not in them you only have yourselves to blame. But first, it’s time to find out who won and lost this week’s Shut Up, Dude.

I like how you make the link say “LDR strips down” because you aren’t trying to bump up the hits or anything!

I don’t think anyone needs to apologize for figuring out what music they like by listening to tracks on a list like this. It’s fun and most people don’t have time to discover music on their own by hanging out at record stores or going to shows several times a week.

PS- I never heard Super Bass until today and it isn’t that good.

I heard she doesn’t even build her own cathedrals for her videos. She just has someone else do it for her.

I read somewhere that these guys and Coldplay are actually supposed to be two completely different bands. No, seriously. I don’t believe it myself, but it’s an interesting theory.

So are you saying that you get the Fleet Foxes video, Steregum? Then please explain it to me.
Otherwise I’d have to say that putting something on your favourite list, that you don’t understand smacks of pretentiousness.

Very lengthy read, and good on ‘Gum for getting Billy to carry on with so much info. What really peaked my interest was his detailing of what Oceania sounds like. I’m a sucker for the Pumpkins, so I’ll likely give it a good listen when it arrives.

Also, I want a progress report on this “T. Rachel Cole” character. All year, this person has given us Progress Reports, but he / she remains mysterious and elusive. At least with the other four, you have an idea of what they’re all about:

Scott – The dad of Stereogum. Kind of dad-rock-ish at times. Short with words when you’ve done something bad, kind of like my dad.
Amrit – If Iceland and My Bloody Valentine had a baby
Tom – Knows everybody. Knows everything about every type of music. Along with cohort, Corban, gives Stereogum a rascally humorous touch.
Corban – Resident hip-hop connoisseur. Along with cohort, Tom, gives Stereogum gives Stereogum a rascally humorous touch.

  1. This is the 3rd or 4th time I have been on here and it has yet to get me laid. I’m starting to wonder what the point is.

    • Persevere. Your time will come.

SIDENOTE: This joke works on the assumption that you have nicknamed your penis “Time”.

    • I approach my commenting here as I do life: no intention of having sex. It has worked marvelously for me in both not having sex and not making top comments, but I cannot claim this will bring you any more understanding or happiness.

    • I hope this wins top comment next week, and then a comment on that list tops the top comments list the week after that,. Ad infinitum until Shut Up, Dude just becomes an alternate reality unto itself! (Or does it?)

  2. You guys came full range this week.

  3. I’m starting a Stereogum commenter twitter list. It’s unofficial and not sure if it makes sense like it does for Videogum, but why not try? Please answer in the form of a list.

  4. I would have put Stephen Hall’s comment higher on my list of best comments.

  5. Editor’s pick! That means the world to me. I humbly accept. C’mere…

  6. No end-of-year list of lists is complete without the Tiny Mix Tapes list, I say! Yes. Tiny Mix Tapes! You should be colleagues with those guys (and gals), as well.

  7. I’d like to thank the Academy…

  8. It is an excellent post of this year. i like this kind of post where talk about real things .
