'The Hunger Games' Movie Poster

Last week, Rolling Stone reported that T-Bone Burnett and Danny Elfman were collaborating to produce the soundtrack for next year’s forthcoming The Hunger Games, the movie adaptation of the popular (and rather enjoyable) young adult series of the same name (Rolling Stone also posted Taylor Swift’s soundtrack collaboration with the Civil Wars, “Safe And Sound”). Later, Reuters reported that Arcade Fire and the Decemberists would also provide new material to the soundtrack, which would certainly suggest they’re going for “anthemic,” in terms of the records tone; Lionsgate’s COO Joe Drake called it “hauntingly beautiful,” so there’s that, too. And, just because I won’t get to say this elsewhere, casting Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss was an incredible choice. The Hunger Games, the first of three installments, is out 3/23.

  1. I’m always in favor of new Arcade Fire

  2. I love this young adult kick Colin Meloy is on right now. First a book series and then signing on for the Hunger Games soundtrack? Great stuff is coming from this.
