Canada’s young dreamweavers Memoryhouse are first-rate cover-lovers, and slowly they are working their way backwards through the ’Gum Real Book: when I first saw them, they took on Grizzly Bear’s Veckatimest heart-tugger “Foreground.” Very recent cover! Next up came My Bloody Valentine — less recent, but just as on-the-nose, indie band cover wise. And true to form, they just went deeper still, with their least-recent cover yet: the Zombies’ New Year’s classic “This Will Be Our Year.” This is a strong statement of a song title for a band with a new album coming out this year! Though the band was thinking about all of us, posting: “I hope this song helps motivate you to lose 5 pounds, stop smoking, and watch less reality T.V. (or is that just me?)” Maybe, maybe not. But this is a stone cold classic and a proper song for early January, and Memoryhouse does it nicely. Download:

The band’s The Slideshow Effect is out 2/28 via Sub Pop.

  1. killer, thanks for the post, can’t wait for MH’s album

  2. Awful. Slowing this song down and making it mournful adds nothing. This makes me want to hang myself.

  3. way to be dramatic

  4. is this a beach house demo from the 00′s?
