The Twilight Sad - No One Can Ever Know

In the past, Scottish band the Twilight Sad has made the sort of slow-motion mope-rock that you might imagine just based on their name. But new track “Another Bed,” a selection from their new album No One Can Ever Know is chilly, synth-laden, Joy Division-ish postpunk brood — a sound that, you’ll be happy to learn, goes amazingly well with an impenetrably thick Scottish accent. Download the track below.

  1. Twilight Sad is pretty good at trying on a different style, and that thick Scottish accent you noted is probably the most enjoyable part about hearing the results. It’s kind of like, “Hmm… I wonder what Sonic Youth would sound like — but Scottish?” *enter Twilight Sad* “Hmm… I wonder what Joy Division would sound like — but Scottish?” *enter Twilight Sad*

Sidenote, can we get the Ceremony single posted up in here?

  2. Nice sounds like Interpol

  3. This one time when I had a lot on my mind, I started running up and down the stairs at my town’s local football stadium. Well, I was a little distracted and probably pushing it a little too hard, but I noticed another guy running the stairs pretty darn fast.

Needless to say, I ended up falling and hurting my ankle while trying to match the speed of this stranger. The other guy noticed me fall and came over to help me. We had a nice chat and I enjoyed his Scottish accent. He also said goodbye in a mysterious way that I really liked: “See you in another life, brother.” Intriguing.

Anyway, to make a long story short, a couple of years later I eventually realized that this guy was the singer for the Twilight Sad. Small world, huh?

  4. Bloggers just love throwing Joy Division into everything. To me, this reminds me of Depeche Mode. Listen to that chorus!

    • I’d say it’s far more New Order than JD but can hear Depeche Mode in there too(and yes I know New Order started out as JD. I’m a huge fan of both).
